Adventure Tourism is having a positive economic impact on Knott County!

  • Horseback Riding - is off to a "gallop" in Knott County. They have developed 100 miles of horseback riding trails, in the last year, on a portion of land owned by Western Pocahontas Land Company. County-sponsored trail rides have been a huge success. Click here for more . . .
  • Off-Road Riding & ATV Training Center - Knott County has developed a number of ATV and dirtbike trails. The first trail ride was held in the Spring of 2007 and had over 500 people attending from as far away as Ohio and South Carolina. An ATV Training Center & Skills Test Course was also opened in 2007.   • Elk Hunting - is by quota in the elk restoration zone that includes the counties of Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, McCreary, Perry, Pike and Whitley. In 2006 alone, 26,000 people paid ten dollars each to be a part of a lottery.

    200 hunters were selected to participate in the Fall Elk hunt. In February 2007, each of these hunters was sent a questionnaire. 103 hunters of the 200 hunters completed a survey.

  • Elk & Wildlife Viewing - South East Kentucky has over 6,000 elk within a 13 county area. That is more elk than any where else east of the Rocky Mountains. The land in these areas are perfect for elk as well as a multitude of other wildlife such as white-tailed deer, bald eagle, black bear and quail. Click here for more . . .
